anyone out there know laptops? and what the best/most reliable brand is right now?
my company is buying me a new one, but the one they're suggesting will not be a significant improvement over the one I've had for 2+ years. I would imagine in two years there has been some improvement in laptop technology?
I need one that's fast and reliable, has a good screen, and the capability to use dual monitors.
any help/advice would be appreciated!

I have a dell inspiron 600M and i really like it. it's nice and light too.
Get a blue one....
Uh, seriously? Dunno, you first have to figure out how big and heavy you can deal with.
Then, you have to look at screen resolution, because as they push the numbers up, the fonts get tiny... and if you don't run at "native" resolution, they are fuzzy.
Then, just get the fastest one with the most memory and biggest hard drive of the choices you have left.
Do NOT under any circumstances get a Dell 600M as recommended above. No offense, kt. I am on my fifth motherboard and third entire system replacement. I have had crazy Dell reps in India call and wake me up at 2:30 in the morning and then do it again the next night! See my blog for complete details. AAAHHH! On the other hand, the Dell Inspiron 6000 has recieved great reviews, has a nice screen and excellent battery life (you have to get the better battery when you order). When my current Dell 600M breaks, and it will, I plan on getting one of the new Inspiron 6000 models.
speaking of computer stuff...i have changed my blog addy...
just so you know. good luck with the computer thing, i still have an old late 90s dinosaur with dial up. oh the horror.
For what it's worth I've had great luck with Acer and toshiba notebooks. Nice screens and light while being durable.
jen - maybe you just got a bad one? mine has been perfect! =)
rg - if you haven't already, check epinions.com for reviews.
RG--I too have a dell, a Latitude D600, and I like it a great deal. Simple, works well, great screen, pretty good battery performance. My two cents.
thanks everyone... getting a Dell Latitude D810... it should have a functioning USB which will be a step up!
